Siobhain O’Mahony

Senior Lecturer, Principal Investigator – ENDO1000 Ireland team

Siobhain has over 20 years of experience working on the microbiome. Her research investigates how our microbiome is essential to our health with a particular focus on the microbiome-gut-brain axis. Some of the outcomes she examines include visceral and somatic pain, stress-related disorders and how these may be impacted by sex differences and ameliorated through developing targeted microbiome-mediated interventions. Siobhain also focuses on women’s health investigating the impact of stress and diet in endometriosis and menopause. Siobhain has a h-index of 49 and has many successful industry, national and international collaborations. Siobhain has received many awards over her career. She recently received the Engaged Research Award 2025, UCC, Clinical Impact Award 2023, UCC and Entrepreneur and Industry Person of the Year Award 2023, UCC.
